I plan to install also a WX-500 Stormscope. Stores lightning data in all ranges simultaneously, making it easy and useful to toggle between them. I would like again to take advantage of the vast knowledge here on VAF: I'm building a RV7A with a G3X GDU 460 touch. It is designed to help a pilot detect dangerous activity and stay well clear. The WX-1000 Stormscope features: Choice of display ranges: 25, 50, 100, and 200 nm. The WX-8's display is less precise than other Stormscope displays. When activity is detected, these segments will show a steady color, flash slowly, or flash quickly (in increasing activity level). The WX-8 display is different from other Stormscopes that you have seen. This was a two-piece system consisting of a display/processor and an antenna. The WX-8 Stormscope was the most affordable Stormscope solution. The system consists of an antenna located on top of the fuselage just forward of the rear window and a processor unit mounted under the aft baggage floor. However the antenna cables needed for a complete systems are almost non-existant. The BF Goodrich Aerospace WX-500 Weather Mapping Sensor (Stormscope) detects electrical discharges associated with thunderstorms and displays the activity on the Avidyne Multi-Function Display. We may be able to locate an Antenna ( P/N: 78-8041-7905-5) if needed. The best fit for this item is a customer who needs to replace a malfunctioning WX-8 Display / Processor, and does not want to perform a new installation (such as the WX-500).
